Suffering Enough

Am I suffering enough?
Do you ever wonder, is the typical middle class, 'American' lifestyle adequate to get you to heaven?

Not suffering enough? Perhaps this response will help remedy the situation.

It is a Buddhist tenet that desire is the root of all suffering. The typical middle-class American has no shortage of desires and ambitions which are continously thwarted and frustrated. The pervasiveness of sin, with its adjuncts of chemical pallitives, would suggest that we are quite anxious and not at peace.

To put this in a Christian context, pain, sadness, and sorrow would be quite distinct from suffering. Suffering would arise from sin or how we relate to our present circumstances, whether we are guided by the flesh or guided by the spirit.

The interpretations offered are my own. In borrowing from non-Christian traditions, I apply the psalm verse: "...if today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts..."

Any misrepresentations presented above are my own doing.
